Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA)

Mission: SOMA is the student affiliate organization of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). This organization intends to unite osteopathic medical students throughout the country and promote osteopathic ideals. There are many opportunities for leadership within the organization, and SOMA has a direct link to sharing information with the AOA, the governing body of osteopathic physicians. SOMA also provides scholarships, discounts, and many other member benefits. SOMA also aims to unite osteopathic students for the future of osteopathic medicine, and promote continuing unity and communication amongst osteopathic physicians.

Our Chapter: SOMA participates in a variety of activities throughout the year, from educational and informative speakers at club meetings, to fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and social events. SOMA members  volunteer at the local childrens hospital, and a nearby nursing home. SOMA host speakers to speak about medical negligence and about health care reform. SOMA helps in running the most successful bake sale at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, helping to raise money for AIDS victims abroad. SOMA members are able to get discounts on everything from textbooks to car insurance, and applied for scholarships available to members only.
