NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Chapter

American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AOCPMR)

Mission:  The NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Chapter of AOCPMR is medical student interest group that aims to increase awareness of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation’s role in patient care.  We are committed to educate the medical student population on current PM&R topics, create opportunities for student participation in PM&R activities, and serve as a resource for students interested in pursuing PM&R as a specialty.

National Organization: http://www.aocpmr.com/

Our Chapter: We have one lunch meeting per month with guest speakers that travel from across the area to speak about current topics in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  We hold two workshops at Nassau University Medical Center on EMG and Ultrasound in which students get to explore advanced diagnostic techniques early on in their medical school careers.  Of great excitement is the continuation of our monthly journal club meetings that we started last year.  All the topics covered in these meetings are board relevant and helpful for exams.  The NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Chapter of AOCPMR participates in community plunge events with the Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club and are looking to co-sponsor more community events for the upcoming year.  We have also worked with the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine SGA in co-sponsoring the Taste of the Nations Talent and Cultural Show and look forward to continuing our support.
