First General Meeting Minutes
Call to order
Katherine Enos called to order the meeting of the Students of Osteopathic Medicine
Association (SOMA) at 12:00 pm on September 20, 2012 in Mollie Auditorium.
Jenna Gillen conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: Katherine Enos
(President), Nicole Ferguson (Vice President), Lauren Cooke (Treasurer), and Theresa
Apoznanski (National Liaison), and Jenna Gillen (Secretary). Sixty-Nine members of
SOMA were present at the meeting.
a) What is SOMA? / Introducing the E-board
1. A PowerPoint show was given by Katie Enos on what SOMA stands
for and the many opportunities available to members from a free Netter’s,
scholarships, discounts on board materials, etc. The current SOMA E-board
was introduced. Pizza was served for individuals attending the meeting. In
addition, the SOMA advisor, Dr. Broder addressed the group.
b) First Year Rep:
Elections were help for first year rep and a special congratulation goes out to
Nadhi Parikh. A picture of Nadhi and the E-board was taken.
c) Breast Cancer Walk/Bake Sale
Katie discussed the upcoming breast cancer walk-taking place on October
21st, 2012. If you would like to participate please join team NYCOM, the link
to signing up can be attained from a prior email sent our to the organization.
In addition, a bake sale is being help on October 1st, 2012 from 11AM-2PM to
raise money for the walk. If you would like to participate in the bake sale you
can sign up on the Google document, touch hours will be received.
