The NYCOM chapter of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine kicked off
its year on September 13th with Dr. Thomas Scandalis as the keynote speaker. As the club
members indulged on specialty slices of pizza and sandwiches, Dr. Scandalis introduced the
splendors of the field to the members in attendance discussing past experiences, possible
residency routes that may be taken that could lead one to a sports medicine fellowship down
the road, as well as mentioned the development of the new sports medicine department at
After the presentation, the members elected Kenneth Saad as the new first year representative
from a field of four total candidates. The membership also participated in a raffle for two
USMLE First Aid 2012 textbooks, a box set of Netter’s Flashcards, and two NYCOM AOASM
Sports Medicine T-shirts.
We looked forward to seeing all the members and many more in November at our next
meeting with presenter Dr. Sheldon Yao.
