Emergency Medicine Club Meeting #1 Minutes

The year’s first Emergency Medicine Club of NYCOM meeting took place on Thursday,
August 30 at 12:00 p.m. in the Mollie Rogers Auditorium. The entire E-board was
present and introductions were made.

Details of the club’s activities were explained and lists of dates of workshops and
lectures were presented to all club members. Additionally, videos from last year’s IV
workshop, which took place on February 22, 2012, and St. Baldrick’s event from 2011
were shown.

Every year the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP) hosts
a scientific conference, which this year will take place in Denver from October 14-17,
2012. A discussion was raised about use of club funds that could potentially help pay for
part of the conference to help increase NYCOM’s exposure to the national chapter. This
would be in addition to the $1500 funding that SGA provides for students to go to these
conferences.

At the activities fair, raffle tickets were given out to all students who signed up for the
Emergency Medicine Club. The winners’ numbers were then selected and presented at
this meeting. Starbucks gift cards, a first aid kit, and a 2012 USMLE First Aid book were
all distributed as prizes.

To conclude the meeting, a first year representative was elected. Each of five
candidates was given one minute to speak to the club. Avram Flamm was elected as
the new first year representative, winning with 35 votes.

The meeting adjourned at 12:50 p.m.
