SAAO (co-sponsored with ACOFP) held the first OMM Mock Practical for the first year students on the evening of September 14, 2011. The purpose of this event was to provide a means for first year medical students at NYCOM to prepare for the official OMM practical exam, without running into any surprises on exam day. The Mock Practical had three stations — diagnosis, treatment, and techniques — just like that of a typical OMM practical. Many first year medical students took advantage of this practice opportunity with the help of the OMM department staff and second year medical student volunteers. Several second year students were stationed at each section, while OMM teaching faculty and scholars provided help whenever necessary. Overall it was a good experience not only for the first year students because of the advice and practice they were getting, but also for the second years who were able to reacquaint themselves with the material and interact with first year students. We greatly appreciate and thank all who have volunteered and helped make this event run successfully. Stay tuned for an update on our next Mock Practical on Wednesday, October 19!
