The following is a message from Michael D. Mallie, Executive Director of DOCARE International:

clinic this June in San Andreas, Itzapa, Guatemala. DOCARE has been
hosting missions in this and other areas of Guatemala for many years,
and the need was clear. The population of Itzapa is mostly rural
farmers with very low incomes, and an alarming 65% of children are
Additionally, 6 out of 10 children with treatable respiratory and
gastrointestinal illnesses die. We are so pleased to establish a
continuous presence in Guatemala in order to provide much needed care
to the area, and we are thrilled to extend the opportunity to help
through our members!
Physician members interested in volunteering at the clinic are
encouraged to contact us to learn more and schedule a trip. You do not
have to visit the clinic as part of a mission, but your DOCARE
membership must be current in order to volunteer. Student members have
the opportunity to schedule a 4-week clerkship at the clinic.
Non-physician, non-student members are also welcome and encouraged to
volunteer. Anyone interested in helping at the clinic may contact
Verna Bronersky @ VBronersky@osteopathic.org or call (312) 202-8191 to
learn more or schedule time.
To learn more about the clinic, we hope you’ll take a few minutes to
watch this video, shot during the clinic’s opening ceremony.
