The Class of 2014 had their first class meeting on Monday, September 12th, from 12-1pm. Various topics were mentioned to the class, starting with the planned SGA meetings for this school year, the planned Class of 2014 meetings for this school year. We then touched upon the previous Movie Event that was held by the Class of 2014, for both the first and second year classes, on Monday, August 22nd, where we saw “30 Minutes or Less” at the Glen Cove Theater. We plan on holding more events during the year, such as more movie events and possibly a week-day bowling event or sporting event. We are welcoming any and all recommendations from the class regarding these events! We also mentioned the Morale Committee’s events that have been planned thus far, particularly Osteoblast, which will be on October 4th, and tickets are currently on sale. The design for our class sweatpants was revealed, and we will we start selling them soon at $10 a pair. Also brought up was the Back To Basics lecture series. We discussed the results of our online poll, where we found most of the class wanted either 4 lectures of 8 lecture, and thus we will probably pick about 6 or so lectures, concentrating on the most popular topics that we polled. There were a few comments and suggestions on the way the Back To Basics Lecture series will work, and we are going to evaluate these comments and come up with what we think is best and most reasonable solution. The topic of TOUCH hours was also addressed, as the deadline for Summer Touch Hours submissions is this week, and students should submit their hours promptly for recognition. Finally, Syed Gillani spoke about the upcoming OMED conference, which will have a mandatory meeting on Monday, September 19th, as well as NYCOM Pulse article submissions, which are still being accepted for the next edition. Overall, the meeting was very informative, and all of the Class Officers did a fine job presenting their information, as well as Syed Gillani, and class seemed very responsive to the information that we had presented. Thank you to all members of the Class of 2014 who attended the meeting, and more information is to come at the Second class meeting on Monday, October 17th, where Dean Scandalis will be speaking to the class!
